Social media concept over whiteBusiness Etiquette should not be reserved strictly for face to face business transactions.  Although using Social Media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter is a great way of interacting with your clients and customers in a more laid back atmosphere, you must keep in mind that how you conduct yourself on these sites is still a direct reflection of your business.  Here are a few tips on how to use these sites without losing business!

·         Fill out your business profile with as much information about your business as possible – Don’t leave people wondering who you are.  People will be more likely to follow/friend you if they know what your business does.

·         Think before you post – Avoid ranting.  Remember, even though it is a social platform, the people you’re connected to are still customers.

·         Keep your personal and professional accounts separate.

·         Offer information of value to your audience  – This is not a place to sell your products, this is a place to connect with people on a personal level and offer valuable information they may not be able to get elsewhere.

·         Don’t OVERSELL on Social Media – Don’t annoy people with numerous posts that pitch your product; that is a quick way of disconnecting with people and losing followers.

·         Be aware of the people who request to be friends or follow your business – the saying holds true; people will judge you by the company you keep!

Even if you are new to social media, the old business etiquette rules still apply, being trust-worthy and authentic are always the best way to connect with people.  These tips can help you build business success in the ‘Social Media Era’.
